A Walk Round Walton Colliery Nature Park

First posted on Waterton’s Walton.

This is a short film about Walton Colliery Nature Park. The park was created to redevelop the site after the colliery closed in 1979. It is hard to believe that a coal mine once existed on the site as the transformation has been amazing. The only real remaining indication of industrial activity is the section of the Barnsley Canal that runs through part of the site.

Spring is a great time for a walk around the site as the wildlife tend their young. In this video you see geese and goslings, ducklings, and a nesting swan. A shrew also makes a brief appearance.
