Sorrento With Bells On

This is a short film showing the sights and sounds of Sorrento’s Tasso Square. It shows the hustle and bustle of the square, from various angles, without any verbal commentary, although bits of text will appear on the screen at various points.

Tasso Square is Sorrento’s main piazza and is named after the sixteenth century poet Torquato Tasso. His most famous work is Gerusalemme Jerusaleme  libertata – Jerusalem Delivered that he completed in 1581. This depicts events around the Siege of Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Tasso was born in Sorrento on 11 March 1544 and died in Rome on 25 April 1595. There is a statue of Tasso in the square and this is shown in the film. The statue was created by the Neapolitan sculptor and painter Gennaro Calì in 1870.
