Chiesa di Sant’Anna – Church at Marina Grande in Sorrento

Sorrento With Bells On

This is a short film about the small church, the Chiesa di Sant’Anna, in the fishing village of Marina Grande where St Anne is the Patron Saint. You can see the church’s green and yellow tiled cupola as you walk down the narrow path that runs down from behind the village.

The church was built in the baroque style in the 17th century. Inside its seems very calm and serene. The church is lovingly cared for by the local community and there are a variety of religious ornaments that decorate the interior. There are paintings on the ceiling and above the alter. There are also statues and a large crucifix.

There is a Festival of Sant’Anna, celebrating the area’s seagoing traditions, that is held each July at Marina Grande when there are games, fireworks and illuminations. During the festival there is also a procession with a statue of the saint…
